Simplicity Horsemanship is built on the belief that true progress doesn’t come from doing more — it comes from doing the right things well. Through structured training, intentional horsemanship, and rider fitness, we help horses and riders develop confidence, capability, and long-term soundness.
Whether you’re just beginning your journey or refining advanced skills, this is a place to learn why things work — not just how.
At Simplicity Horsemanship, I believe in the power of pasture. Horses do their best in life when they have ample space to move. I have seen the difference in a horses’ body when it walks over hills, grazes freely, and feels safe in its herd. The back loosens, the hind end gets stronger, the front end can get more mobile, their feet improve, and the mental tension the horse had, leaves.
The main property is 22 acres, with 17 acres of pasture. The “Great Beyond” which was acquired in the middle of 2025, is an additional 25 acres, 20 of which are being turned into pasture, and will be ready in approximately summer of 2026.
A horse in training will be worked by Kelley to progress on the training goals. Work sessions can vary in time from 20 minutes to an hour, depending on what the horse needs. The main focus is turning the horse into a confident, capable, easily handleable partner. Each horse is expected to master basic groundwork and develop under saddle capabilities to do basic ridden work safely. For horses further along in their journey, the goals surround developing fitness to progress through the training pyramid and up levels. Each horse is met where they’re at in their journey to progress into a more advanced partner.
Partial Training: Approximately 10 training sessions per month
Full Training: Approximately 20 training sessions per month
Riding lessons are available publicly for all levels of horse experience. If you’re looking for your first riding lesson, or if you’re looking to move up the levels, we’d love to support your goals.
Lessons can be on your own horse or a school horse. Riders will be expected to catch, groom, and tack up for their own lessons. Riders who are still learning to catch, groom, and tack up will be assisted, as part of the lesson. Lessons last approximately an hour, riding time can vary from 35 minutes to an hour, depending on horse/rider fitness level and needs. A helmet is required for all riders on the property.
Beginner - 0 to 2 years of riding experience.
Intermediate - walk, trot, cantering, comfortably with/without supervision and instruction.
Advanced - experience with riding outside of an arena, without supervision, prior horse ownership, consistently ridden for 5+ years, etc.
Dressage riders looking to move up the levels and develop their horse or master a specific level.
In order to have success at the upper levels, a rider needs to master an independent seat. Seatwork focuses on developing the fitness, mobility, and timing to move the rider from a passive seat to a directing seat, enabling the rider to clearly communicate with your horse step for step.
Horses and handlers are taught the foundational components that lead to having a safe interaction with horses. Groundwork lessons can start with approaching a horse who may be difficult to catch, or work on advanced in-hand lateral work. Horse ownership is not required to participate in groundwork lessons.
As valuable as cross-training is for horses, equestrian athletes should also be spending time on improving their fitness outside of just riding! Finding the body mechanics of correct riding, on the ground, in the gym, can rapidly advance a rider’s capabilities. As an NASM-certified personal trainer, I can help you develop correct body mechanics, as well as develop an exercise program to help continue the advancement based on your particular challenges.
I believe Mobilizing, Stabilizing, and Strengthening is an effective approach to working with athletes, and can help drastically reduce the challenges a rider feels when sitting a big trot, jumping a big fence, or staying on when your horse spooks sideways.
Rider fitness & Equicizer lessons are not discipline-specific, so all types of riders, from beginners to advanced, are welcome!
We are happy to host the Dressage Club at Auburn, an Intercollegiate Dressage Association team. Riders have to be a student at Auburn University to participate. Tryouts may be held depending on team size. Lessons are available to all who wish to participate. Riders who would like to participate in shows are required to participate in lessons.
Riders at Simplicity Horsemanship will be invited to shows as our calendar permits. Show coaching will be available for riders who are participating. Show coaching is still available for riders located at other farms in the event that it is requested.
